#Comments In #Python
In Python, you can add comments to your code using the `#` character, which is the most common way to write comments. Comments are ignored by the Python interpreter and are used for documenting your code. Here are the different ways to add comments in Python:
1. Single-Line Comments: These comments are used for adding explanations, notes, or documentation on a single line.
# This is a single-line comment
variable = 100 # You can also add comments at the end of a line of code
2. Multi-Line Comments: Python doesn't have a built-in syntax for multi-line comments like some other programming languages do. However, you can use triple double-quotes (`'''`) or triple single-quotes (`'''`) to create multi-line strings, and these are often used as multi-line comments.
'''
This is a
multi-line comment.
It's just a string that is not assigned to any variable.
'''
Note that while this is a common practice, it doesn't completely prevent the string from being stored in memory.
3. Docstrings: Docstrings are a specific type of comment used to document modules, classes, functions, or methods. They are enclosed in triple double-quotes (`'''`) or triple single-quotes (`'''`). While docstrings are similar to multi-line comments, they are accessible as an attribute of the documented object.
def my_function():
"""
This is a docstring for my_function.
It provides information about the function's purpose, parameters, and return value.
"""
pass
You can access this docstring using the `.__doc__` attribute:
print(my_function.__doc__)
4. Inline Comments: These are comments placed on the same line as code to provide explanations for that specific line. They are typically separated from the code by two spaces.
x = 80 # This is an inline comment explaining the value of x
Remember that while comments are essential for making your code more readable and maintainable, excessive or redundant comments can clutter your code. It's best to use comments judiciously and provide clear and concise explanations where needed.
