Which JRE or JDK am I using?

Here are some examples using which you can get java versions on linux systems:

  • java -version
  • java -XshowSettings:properties -version
  • ls -l $(which java)
  • ll /usr/lib/java*
  • ls -l /etc/alternatives/java
  • dirname $(readlink -f $(which java))
  • alternatives --display java
  • rpm -qa | grep jdk
  • ll /usr/lib/j*
