Package sun-java6-jdk is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source

If you get this error :

Package sun-java6-jdk is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source


Execute following commands :



  1. sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
  2. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/java
  3. sudo apt-get update
  4. sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk
  5. sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-6-sun
